01 · Where it started
A small collection we can stand behind
Hana by the Sea started in the Netherlands with a small team and a simple frustration: too many online stores sell thousands of items and stand behind none of them.
We wanted the opposite. A short edit of pieces we could vouch for, chosen for one place. That place is Australia. Everything we stock is picked for an Australian summer, and we ship it Australia-wide with free tracked delivery.
02 · Why dresses & jewellery
One dress, one finishing touch
On a long summer day you don't want to change three times. You want one dress that works from lunch to sunset, and one small piece that makes it feel like yours.
That is why we focus on exactly two things. The dress sets the shape, colour and mood. The jewellery finishes the look: a pendant in a V-neck, hoops with a halter, pearl drops with bare shoulders. Read more in our story in the Journal.
03 · How we choose
Would we wear it ourselves?
Every piece has to pass one question before it goes on the site: would we wear this ourselves? If the answer is no, it does not make the collection.
We look for light fabrics such as linen, cotton blends, chiffon and satin, easy shapes, and colours that suit sun and sea. Our jewellery is simple and gold-tone, so it goes with more than one dress. That is why you will find dozens of pieces here, not thousands.
